The Zoology Department of Panskura Banamali College successfully organized a 60-hour internship program on Brackish Water Aquaculture Practices in Nandigram, Purba Medinipur, aimed at providing students with practical exposure to one of the most promising sectors in fisheries science. The program involved field visits to operational brackish water aquaculture farms where students observed and actively participated in various stages of aquaculture management, including pond preparation, water quality monitoring, species selection, seed stocking, feed management, and disease control practices. Particular focus was given to the cultivation of economically important species such as Penaeus monodon (Tiger shrimp), Lates calcarifer (Barramundi), and mullets. The internship also included interactive sessions with experienced farmers and industry professionals, helping students understand the socio-economic relevance and challenges of brackish water aquaculture in coastal West Bengal. Through this hands-on training, students were able to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, thereby enhancing their understanding of sustainable aquaculture practices.
